Bermuda Grass Sod Delivery and Installation

Installing Bermuda Grass is a great way to quickly establish a new lawn. Freshly cut sod from a Bermuda Grass Sod Farm can be used to quickly achieve the desired look, touch, and feel of an established lawn with minimal effort. The biggest advantage that comes with using freshly cut sod is the decrease in weeds and pests. Since the grass has already been grown and nurtured at the farm, it does not need to compete for nutrients or water with existing weed species that may have taken root in your yard. Additionally, Bermuda Grass produces thick coverage relatively quick which helps further ward off potential infestations by weeds. It also requires less maintenance than other types of grass due to its hardy nature, making it ideal for those who don’t have the time or resources to dedicate towards landscaping care. Finally, Bermuda Grass is quite heat and drought tolerant, making it well suited for areas that experience long summers with little rainfall.

For these reasons, installing Bermuda Grass can be an ideal option for those looking to quickly create a lush and vibrant lawn without having to worry about weeds or pests taking over. Freshly cut sod from a Bermuda Grass Sod Farm provides all of the qualities associated with this type of grass while eliminating much of the hassle involved in establishing a new lawn. When laying down the sod, make sure to firmly press each piece into place and fill any gaps with loam or mulch before watering lightly. If you are looking to give your yard an instant upgrade, consider using freshly cut Bermuda Grass sod as an easy solution.  With proper care and maintenance, you can enjoy a beautiful and healthy lawn for many years to come.

Measure Area for Bermuda Sod using measuring wheel or measuring tape. Calculate Square Footage

How to Measure the Area for your New Bermuda Grass

To measure your yard for Bermuda sod, you will need to determine the length and  width of the area you want to cover. You can use a measuring tape or a  measuring wheel to get the measurements. Once you have the length and  width, multiply them together to get the total square footage of the  area. This will give you an estimate of how much Bermuda sod you will need to  purchase. It is also important to consider any irregular shapes or  angles in the area, as they will require additional calculations to  determine the correct amount of Bermuda sod needed. It is also recommended to  add an extra 10-15% to account for any cuts or waste.

Let's say you have a rectangular shaped yard that is 60 feet long and 40 feet wide. To determine the square footage of the area, you would multiply the length (60) by the width (40):

60 x 40 = 2,400 square feet

So in this example, you would need to purchase approximately 2,400 square feet of Bermuda sod to cover the entire yard. However, it's always a good idea to add an extra 10-15% to account for any cuts or waste. so you would need to purchase around 2,640 - 2,760 square feet of Bermuda sod.

It's also important to note that in case if you have any irregular shapes or angles in your yard, you should measure these areas separately and then add it to the total square footage.

Prepare the Area for your New Bermuda Grass

  • Clear the area of any debris, such as rocks, sticks, or leaves.

  • Remove any existing grass or weeds using a sod cutter, hoe, or herbicide.

  • Use a rake or a leveling tool to smooth out the soil surface and remove any large clumps or bumps.

  • Grade the soil if needed, to ensure proper drainage and to create a level surface.

  • Once the area is cleared and prepared, use a lawn roller to compact the soil.

  • Water the soil thoroughly before installing the sod to ensure that it will make good contact with the soil and root properly.

Water the soil thoroughly

  • Before installing the St Bermuda sod, water the soil thoroughly to a depth of at least 6 inches. This will help the roots of the sod establish more effectively.

  • You can use a hose and nozzle, sprinkler, or irrigation system to water the soil. Be sure to water the soil uniformly to ensure that the entire area is hydrated.

  • It's important to water the soil to a depth of 6 inches because the roots of the new Bermuda sod need to reach that depth to establish effectively.

  • After installation, water the new Bermuda sod immediately and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks.

  • For the first two weeks, water the new Bermuda sod at least twice a day, in the morning and evening, or as often as necessary to keep the soil consistently moist.

  • After the first two weeks, reduce the frequency of watering to once a day.

  • Gradually reduce the frequency of watering over the next few weeks, until you reach a watering schedule that's appropriate for your area's climate and weather conditions.

  • Be sure to keep an eye on the new Bermuda sod and water it as needed to prevent it from drying out.

Note: The watering schedule may vary depending on the location, climate, and other factors specific to your area. It is always best to check the American Landworks for information about the condition of sod farm for the best results.

Laying New Bermuda Grass Sod

  • Start by laying the first row of Bermuda Grass sod along one edge of the prepared area, making sure the edges of the Bermuda Grass sod are tight against each other.

  • Continue laying rows of sod, making sure the edges of each piece of Bermuda Grass sod are tightly butted against the edges of the previous piece.

  • As you lay each piece of Bermuda Grass sod, stagger the joints, like laying bricks in a brick wall pattern, so that the joints in one row are not lined up with the joints in the next row. This will help prevent gaps from forming between the pieces of Bermuda Grass sod.

  • Use a sharp knife or sod cutter to trim the edges of the Bermuda Grass sod as needed, to fit around curves or corners.

  • Make sure to adjust the Bermuda Grass sod as you go, to ensure that it is level and that there are no gaps between the pieces.

  • Once all the Bermuda Grass sod is laid, use a lawn roller or your feet to press the sod down firmly into the soil, to ensure good contact between the roots and the soil.

  • Water the Bermuda Grass sod immediately after installation, to ensure that the soil is moist at least 6 inches deep.

American Landworks Professional landscapers have the experience and equipment  necessary to properly prepare the soil, lay the Bermuda Grass sod, and ensure that it  is properly hydrated and cared for after installation.

We can also  help with any additional landscaping needs you may have.  American Landworks are experienced and  efficient, we can save you time and ensure that your new Bermuda Grass sod is installed correctly for optimal growth and beauty.

Rolling new Bermuda Grass sod is an important step in the installation process that helps ensure good contact between the roots and the soil. This can help the roots establish more effectively and promote better growth.

  • After laying the new Bermuda Grass sod, use a lawn roller or rent one from a local equipment rental company to press the sod down firmly into the soil.

  • Begin at one end of the sod and roll it in a back-and-forth motion, making sure to cover the entire area.

  • The roller should be filled with water, to add weight and help press the sod down firmly.

  • Be sure to roll the sod evenly, to ensure that there are no air pockets between the sod and the soil.

  • Once all the new Bermuda Grass sod is rolled, water the area immediately to ensure that the soil is moist at least 6 inches deep.

  • Repeat the process in case of any air pockets appear

Proper watering is an essential aspect of maintaining a healthy and lush Bermuda grass lawn. Here are some tips for watering new Bermuda grass sod:

  • Timing: The best time to water new Bermuda grass sod is early in the morning or late in the evening, when the temperature is cooler and there is less wind. Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day, as this can cause evaporation and can make it more difficult for the sod to establish roots.

  • Frequency: For the first 2-3 weeks after installation, new Bermuda grass sod should be watered thoroughly every day. After that, you can reduce the frequency to every other day for the next 2-3 weeks. Once the sod is established, you can reduce the frequency of watering to once or twice a week.

  • Amount: The amount of water that new Bermuda grass sod needs will depend on factors such as temperature, humidity, and soil type. In general, new sod should be watered until the soil is saturated to a depth of 6 inches. This can be accomplished by using a sprinkler, a soaker hose, or a watering can.

  • Check the soil moisture: It's important to check the soil moisture regularly to ensure that the new sod is getting enough water. The soil should be consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • Gradual reduction: Gradually reduce the frequency and amount of water as the sod becomes established. As the sod roots grow deeper, it will be able to access water deeper in the soil, and will require less frequent watering.

  • Summer watering: Bermuda grass needs more water in the hot summer months as the water evaporates faster. Be sure to water the lawn more frequently during this time.

It's important to note that over-watering can be just as detrimental as under-watering, as it can create a waterlogged soil that can lead to root rot and other problems. It's also important to be aware of local watering restrictions and regulations.

Proper mowing is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy and attractive Bermuda grass lawn. Here are some tips for mowing new Bermuda grass sod:

  • Timing: It is best to wait until the new sod has rooted into the soil, which typically takes about 2-3 weeks, before mowing for the first time. This will give the sod time to establish roots and begin to grow.

  • Cutting height: Bermuda grass should be mowed at a height of 1-1.5 inches. This height will promote a dense, healthy lawn that is better able to compete with weeds.

  • Mower blades: It is important to use sharp mower blades when mowing new sod. Dull blades can tear the sod, which can make it more susceptible to disease.

  • Frequency: Bermuda grass should be mowed once a week during the growing season. As the weather cools down, you can reduce the frequency of mowing.

  • Watering: It is important to water the new sod thoroughly before mowing, to prevent the blades from tearing the sod. It is also important to avoid mowing the sod when it is wet, as this can make it more susceptible to disease.

  • Gradual adjustment: It is important to gradually adjust the cutting height of the lawn mower over time. Start with the highest cutting height and gradually reduce the cutting height over the course of several mowings.

  • Spring mowing: Be sure to remove any debris from the lawn before the first mowing of the spring.

Fertilizing New Bermuda Grass Sod

Proper fertilization is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy and lush Bermuda grass lawn. Here are some tips for fertilizing new Bermuda grass sod:

  • Timing: The best time to fertilize new Bermuda grass sod is around 4-6 weeks after it has been installed. This will give the sod enough time to establish roots and begin to grow. It is important to fertilize new sod before the onset of hot weather, as high temperatures can stress the new grass and make it more susceptible to disease.

  • Fertilizer Selection: Bermuda grass needs a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen and potassium. Nitrogen is important for leaf growth and color, while potassium is important for root growth and overall health. A fertilizer with a ratio of 3-1-2 (Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium) will work well for Bermuda grass.

  • Application: Bermuda grass should be fertilized at a rate of 1-2 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet. You can spread the fertilizer by using a broadcast spreader or by using a drop spreader. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates and spreader settings.

  • Irrigation: After fertilizing, it's important to water the lawn thoroughly to help the fertilizer reach the roots. Be sure to avoid over-watering, as this can wash away the fertilizer and cause runoff.

  • Repeat: Repeat the fertilization process every 6-8 weeks during the growing season.

  • Fall fertilization: Bermuda grass should also be fertilized in the fall, around 4-6 weeks before the first frost date. This will help the grass store nutrients and prepare for winter.

It's important to note that it's also important to have a soil test done to determine the pH level and nutrient levels of the soil. A soil test will determine the type of fertilizer to use and the rate of application, which is based on the pH level of the soil. This will help you to avoid over-fertilizing and to ensure that your new Bermuda grass sod receives the right amount of nutrients to thrive.

Weed control is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy and attractive lawn, especially when it comes to new planted Bermuda sod. Bermuda sod is a warm-season grass that is commonly used in the southern United States, including Florida. It is known for its fine texture, deep green color, and its ability to thrive in hot, sunny conditions.

Here are a few tips for weed control for new planted Bermuda sod:

  • Pre-emergent herbicides: Before planting the sod, it is important to apply a pre-emergent herbicide to the soil to prevent weed seeds from germinating. This will help to ensure that the new sod has a chance to establish itself without competition from weeds.

  • Proper mowing: Once the sod is planted, it is important to maintain proper mowing practices. Bermuda sod should be mowed at a height of 1-1.5 inches, and the mower blades should be sharp to prevent tearing the sod. This will help to encourage a dense, healthy lawn that is better able to compete with weeds.

  • Fertilization: Fertilizing your lawn with the appropriate nutrients will also help to encourage healthy growth and compete with weeds. Bermuda sod needs a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen and potassium.

  • Irrigation: Bermuda sod needs proper irrigation to establish itself and thrive. It is important to water the sod thoroughly and regularly, especially during the first few weeks after planting.

  • Hand-pulling: If you notice any weeds growing in your new sod, it is important to remove them as soon as possible. Hand-pulling is an effective method for removing small numbers of weeds.

  • Post-emergent herbicides: If you notice a large number of weeds growing in your new sod, you may need to use a post-emergent herbicide to control them. Be sure to choose a herbicide that is safe for Bermuda grass and follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.

It's important to note that weed control for new planted Bermuda sod is an ongoing process. Regularly monitoring your lawn and taking the appropriate steps to control weeds will help to ensure that your new sod thrives and your lawn looks beautiful.
