Commercial and Residential Zoysia Grass Sod Installation

Zoysia Sod Installation

Installing Zoysia grass is a great way to improve the look of your lawn and add value to your home. Zoysia grass is a warm-season turfgrass that can be grown in hot climates, offering a hardy and drought-tolerant alternative to traditional cool-season grasses. Additionally, Zoysia grass has an attractive color and texture, making it ideal for landscaping projects.

The best time to install Zoysia grass sod is between early spring and late summer when temperatures are warm enough for growth. It’s recommended that you purchase freshly cut sod from a Zoysia Grass Sod Farm or local nursery as soon as possible after harvesting it so you can plant it right away. Freshly cut sod is the best way to ensure healthy, disease-free grass and will help your lawn establish itself more quickly.

When installing Zoysia Grass Sod, be sure to prepare the soil properly before laying it down. This means removing any rocks or other debris, tilling and leveling the soil, and adding fertilizer as needed. After preparing and laying the sod, you should water it thoroughly every day for two weeks to help it become established. Once established, Zoysia grass requires less maintenance than other types of turfgrass because it can tolerate drought and can even handle a bit of shade. With adequate care and attention, Zoysia Grass will give you a beautiful lawn that will last for years to come!

Measure Area for Zoysia Sod using measuring wheel or measuring tape. Calculate Square Footage

How to Measure the Area for your New Zoysia Grass

To measure your yard for Zoysia sod, you will need to determine the length and  width of the area you want to cover. You can use a measuring tape or a  measuring wheel to get the measurements. Once you have the length and  width, multiply them together to get the total square footage of the  area. This will give you an estimate of how much Zoysia sod you will need to  purchase. It is also important to consider any irregular shapes or  angles in the area, as they will require additional calculations to  determine the correct amount of Zoysia sod needed. It is also recommended to  add an extra 10-15% to account for any cuts or waste.

Let's say you have a rectangular shaped yard that is 60 feet long and 40 feet wide. To determine the square footage of the area, you would multiply the length (60) by the width (40):

60 x 40 = 2,400 square feet

So in this example, you would need to purchase approximately 2,400 square feet of Zoysia sod to cover the entire yard. However, it's always a good idea to add an extra 10-15% to account for any cuts or waste. so you would need to purchase around 2,640 - 2,760 square feet of Zoysia sod.

It's also important to note that in case if you have any irregular shapes or angles in your yard, you should measure these areas separately and then add it to the total square footage.

Water the soil thoroughly

  • Before installing the Zoysia sod, water the soil thoroughly to a depth of at least 6 inches. This will help the roots of the sod establish more effectively.

  • You can use a hose and nozzle, sprinkler, or irrigation system to water the soil. Be sure to water the soil uniformly to ensure that the entire area is hydrated.

  • It's important to water the soil to a depth of 6 inches because the roots of the new Zoysia sod need to reach that depth to establish effectively.

  • After installation, water the new Zoysia sod immediately and keep the soil consistently moist for the first few weeks.

  • For the first two weeks, water the new Zoysia sod at least twice a day, in the morning and evening, or as often as necessary to keep the soil consistently moist.

  • After the first two weeks, reduce the frequency of watering to once a day.

  • Gradually reduce the frequency of watering over the next few weeks, until you reach a watering schedule that's appropriate for your area's climate and weather conditions.

  • Be sure to keep an eye on the new Zoysia sod and water it as needed to prevent it from drying out.

Note: The watering schedule may vary depending on the location, climate, and other factors specific to your area. It is always best to check the American Landworks for information about the condition of sod farm for the best results.

Laying New Zoysia Grass Sod

  • Start by laying the first row of Zoysia Grass sod along one edge of the prepared area, making sure the edges of the Zoysia Grass sod are tight against each other.

  • Continue laying rows of Zoysia Grass sod, making sure the edges of each piece of Zoysia Grass sod are tightly butted against the edges of the previous piece.

  • As you lay each piece of Zoysia Grass sod, stagger the joints, like laying bricks in a brick wall pattern, so that the joints in one row are not lined up with the joints in the next row. This will help prevent gaps from forming between the pieces of Zoysia Grass sod.

  • Use a sharp knife or sod cutter to trim the edges of the Zoysia Grass sod as needed, to fit around curves or corners.

  • Make sure to adjust the Zoysia Grass sod as you go, to ensure that it is level and that there are no gaps between the pieces.

  • Once all the Zoysia Grass sod is laid, use a lawn roller or your feet to press the sod down firmly into the soil, to ensure good contact between the roots and the soil.

  • Water the Zoysia Grass sod immediately after installation, to ensure that the soil is moist at least 6 inches deep.

American Landworks Professional landscapers have the experience and equipment  necessary to properly prepare the soil, lay the Zoysia Grass sod, and ensure that it  is properly hydrated and cared for after installation.

  • After laying the new Zoysia Grass sod, use a lawn roller or rent one from a local equipment rental company to press the sod down firmly into the soil.

  • Begin at one end of the sod and roll it in a back-and-forth motion, making sure to cover the entire area.

  • The roller should be filled with water, to add weight and help press the sod down firmly.

  • Be sure to roll the sod evenly, to ensure that there are no air pockets between the sod and the soil.

  • Once all the new Zoysia Grass sod is rolled, water the area immediately to ensure that the soil is moist at least 6 inches deep.

  • Repeat the process in case of any air pockets appear

Zoysia sod, recently layed by American Landworks, requires regular watering to help it take root and establish itself. Immediately after installation, Zoysa grass should be watered thoroughly and deeply at least twice a week during hot weather. Once the Zoysia has taken root, the frequency of watering can be reduced to once per week. During cooler weather, Zoysia grass should receive approximately an inch of water every two weeks for optimal results.

A rain gauge or irrigation system can help you track how much water your Zoysia is receiving so that you can adjust as needed. It’s also important to ensure that Zoysia receives enough sunlight; too much shade can reduce its effectiveness in providing a lush green lawn for your home. For the best results, be sure to monitor and adjust your Zoysia watering routine as needed throughout the year. With proper care, Zoysia sod can provide a beautiful and durable lawn for years to come.

If you need any help with Zoysa grass installation or maintenance, American Landworks is here to help! Our experienced professionals understand Zoysia’s unique requirements and can provide knowledgeable advice on how to keep your Zoysia healthy and looking its best.  When Zoysa Grass Sod is newly laid, it needs to be mowed as soon as possible. This will give the grass a chance to become established and start spreading its roots while providing a healthier environment for growth. Mowing your Zoysia Sod should begin approximately two weeks after installation. To ensure that young Zoysia grass blades are cut evenly, use a sharp blade for cutting. The optimal height for Zoysia sod is 1-2 inches in length; this allows room for natural growth and prevents weeds from taking over the area.

When mowing Zoysia Sod, make sure to maintain frequent intervals of no more than one week between each mow. Doing so will prevent scalping of the turf and will promote healthy root systems. Additionally, Zoysia Grass Sod should be mowed to a height of 1-2 inches in the wintertime and 2-3 inches in the summer months. Ultimately, Zoysia sod needs to be routinely maintained for it to remain healthy and look its best. By following these simple tips from American Landworks, you can achieve a beautiful Zoysia sod lawn.

It is important to remember that Zoysia sod must not be over watered or under watered as this can lead to disease issues or stress on the turf. Watering your Zoysa Grass Sod once a week at around two inches is normally enough. Also, Zoysia sod should not be fertilized until it is established, as fertilizers can burn the tender grass. After Zoysia sod has been established, a fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio should be used once or twice during the growing season to keep Zoysa Grass Sod healthy and beautiful.

By following these tips from American Landworks on when and how to mow Zoysia Sod recently laid by American Landworks, you will have a beautiful lawn in no time!

American Landworks recommends fertilizing newly laid Zoysia Sod to promote healthy, lush growth. The best time to fertilize Zoysia grass sod is soon after it has been installed. This will provide the essential nutrients necessary for Zoysia grass to thrive and fill in properly.

Applying a fertilizer specifically designed for Zoysia grass is recommended, as this type of grass has specific nutrient needs that other types of grass do not require. Furthermore, proper watering techniques should always be followed when caring for Zoysia Sod; over-watering can lead to root rot and weed growth. With the right care, Zoysia Sod can give your lawn a beautiful look that’s sure to last!

Weed control for newly planted Zoysia sod is an important part of maintenance and care. To ensure your grass remains healthy and vibrant, it's essential to take steps to reduce the occurrence of weeds on your lawn.

The best way to control weeds on newly planted Zoysia sod is through proper fertilization. Fertilizing your lawn regularly will help keep nutrients in the soil balanced and promote a healthier environment for your grass. Additionally, make sure you only use organic fertilizer so that you don't add any chemicals or toxins to the soil that could be damaging to your grass or the environment at large.

Another effective weed control measure is mowing high and often. By keeping your grass about three inches in height, you'll help to shade out weed seeds and reduce their opportunity to germinate. Additionally, mowing regularly will ensure that any new weeds are cut off before they've had the chance to become established.

Finally, it's important to remove any existing weeds by hand or with a light herbicide spray. Pulling them from the root is the most effective way of eliminating them from your lawn for good. If you feel uncomfortable applying chemical treatments on your Zoysia sod yourself, then hiring a professional lawn care service can be a great solution too.

By following these steps and taking proactive measures against weeds, you'll have Zoysia grass sod that looks healthy and beautiful all year long!
